Description:
This is the tenth collection of piano sonatas by Bohemian composer Kojelf. While the ninth collection contained works from 1790 to 1793, the works in this tenth collection were composed between 1807 and 1809. In fact, Kozyelf was so busy as a court composer that he had little time to play the piano, and 14 years lay between No. 37 and No. 38. The period was already shifting toward Romanticism, which made his works somewhat out of date. However, with the three sonatas from No. 38 to No. 40 (Op. 51), Kozlov managed to ride the wave of the times. After that, he continued to be creative and inventive, eventually leaving behind 50 sonatas, which is quite a feat. For this album, Kemp English prepared a fortepiano made around 1815 and succeeded in accurately conveying the sound of the time. Naxos Japan
