Classical V.A.
Description:
This is a collection of works by Josef Scherp, who was based in Karlsruhe, Germany. Scherb was active as a pianist and composer from his youth, but lost most of his early works in a bombing in 1942. However, he later wrote as many as 150 works as if he were making up for lost time. This album contains clarinet works influenced by Hindemith and Berg, ranging from the rhythm-oriented neoclassical clarinet sonata written in 1947 to the "New Viennese Music" quartet of 1965, with its harmony on the verge of tonal collapse, filled with surprisingly sensual The four pieces are filled with surprisingly sensual melodies and humor.
