Fou Ts'ong
Description:
Half a century before Lan Lan, the Chinese pianist known as a Chopin player and the first pianist from a country with an entire collection of recordings, another Chinese pianist, Fu Tzong, was a sensation in Europe and the U.S. He won third prize at the 1955 International Chopin Piano Competition. Audiences and critics were amazed at the innate sense of Polish rhythms typical of Chopin's music coming from the hands of a 21-year-old young man from Shanghai. After studying in Poland, Fu Tsung moved to London, where he recorded nine albums for the Westminster label between 1960 and 1967. All of them have been newly remastered and are being released together for the first time. In addition, an album of Mozart concertos for two pianos by Daniel Barenboim and Vladimir Ashkenazy and for three pianos with Hu Tsung, recorded for Decca in 1972, has been added to the collection. This 10-CD boxed set comes in its original jacket. Universal Music/IMS
