Valérie and Philippe Chaume-Arnaud have quietly built a reputation as pioneers of biodynamic viticulture in Vinsobres, the northernmost and highest-altitude cru of the Southern Rhône. For this standout Côtes-du-Rhône value, they declassify younger vines (under 40 years old) from their high-elevation estate slopes, where clay-limestone soils and the cooling alpine winds preserve remarkable energy and freshness in the fruit. Keeping intervention to a minimum, the family vinifies the wine entirely in concrete and stainless steel tanks—resolutely avoiding any oak barrels—to deliver an uncompromised, pure expression of the grapes and their rugged Mediterranean terroir.
An energetic blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Cinsault, the 2023 vintage pours a brilliant ruby red and leaps from the glass with a perfumed bouquet of crunchy red berries, dark plum, and crushed wild herbs typical of the local garrigue. The palate is medium-bodied and beautifully supple, balancing a core of fleshy cherry and blackberry flavors with mild, finely woven tannins. A refreshing lift of wild raspberry and a subtle streak of licorice and white pepper round out a clean, mouthwatering finish. This incredibly versatile, food-friendly red is ready for immediate enjoyment alongside grilled lamb skewers, roasted poultry, or a hearty vegetable ratatouille.
