Lunar Apoge is a boutique producer in the southern Rhône, focused on crafting wines that reflect the unique character of the Lirac appellation. The estate emphasises traditional winemaking techniques, combining modern precision with respect for the terroir. The 2020 vintage benefited from a warm growing season with steady rainfall early in the year, followed by sunny, dry summer conditions that allowed the Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre grapes to reach optimal ripeness.

The vineyards sit on clay-limestone soils with patches of gravel, providing excellent drainage and imparting structure and minerality to the wine. Hand-harvested grapes underwent fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel and concrete tanks, followed by ageing in a combination of concrete eggs and older French oak barrels to enhance texture without dominating the fruit.

Appearance Deep ruby with violet reflections. The wine is clear and dense, with slow-moving legs indicating a full-bodied structure and good ageing potential.

Aroma Aromas of black cherry, blackberry, and plum are layered with notes of garrigue herbs, pepper, and subtle hints of smoked earth. A touch of vanilla and spice emerges with aeration, adding complexity.

Taste On the palate, the wine is rich and structured, with ripe dark fruit flavours intertwined with savoury notes of leather, graphite, and pepper. Silky tannins provide support without overpowering the freshness, while medium acidity keeps the wine vibrant.

Finish Long and persistent, with lingering dark fruit, spice, and subtle mineral undertones. The tannins are firm yet integrated, promising further development with cellaring.

Food Pairing Grilled lamb chops with rosemary and garlic complement the wine’s savoury depth. A mushroom and truffle risotto pairs beautifully with its earthy complexity.
