Flying Lotus' fifth album in two years and the latest with the powerful title "You'reDead!" has finally been released! The opener "Theme" (M-1), which is a jazzy opener that will jack your ears with the tense strings from the beginning and blow you away with the odd time rhythm jazz break, and "Tesla" (M-2), which is bursting with Herbie Hancock's spacy keys and Thundercat's superb bass playing, will make you feel like you're in the presence of a masterpiece. The start of "Tesla" (M-2), with Thundercat's superb bass playing and Thundercock's spaced-out keyboards, is a shocking start to the album. The album features up-and-coming jazz drummers such as Ronald Bruner (Thundercat's brother), Gene Coy, and Justin Brown, as well as Deanthoni Parks, who supported the rhythm section of the Mars Volta, and Kathleen Kahn, a promising sax player in the West Coast jazz scene who is rumored to be releasing a new album on Brainfeeder. The group features a host of distinguished players, including Kamasi Washington, the saxophone player of the Mars Volta, and Miguel Atwood Ferguson, the wizard of strings.
