Foot in the Door (FITD) is an ensemble for contemporaneous music at the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford. The ensemble takes its name from the title of American businessman Alfred Fuller's autobiography, and its motto is "Foot in the Door. They have performed internationally, including being invited to perform at the Dark Music Days Festival in Reykjavik in 2015. All of the composers featured on this album are alumni, professors, and former professors of the Hartt School of Music, and all of the pieces were written for this ensemble. The ensemble's compositions include Lee Shuin's "The Last Hive Mind," inspired by the British TV series "Black Mirror;" Langston Turner's "Burning Music," which explores various forms of fire; Steen's "Depot Flux," performed in Reykjavik in 2015; and "The Nicaraguan Rocks," a piece written for the Nikaraguan Rocks that was performed in 2018. inspired by the Nicaraguan protests of 2018; Carl's "Open/Empty," inspired by the process of breathing; and Turin's "Equinox = Equinox," an album title that expresses the awakening of spring and new life.
