Hampden Estate, the lords of the funk, have finally put out their own bottling of aged rum, and what a lordly dram it is. High ester, wild fermented, 100% pot still, and tropically aged for over seven years at the estate with nothing but their own spring water added. This is beautiful, pure, natural rum. Nose is impetuous and very intense, every scent is amplified by the 60% ABV. Delightful scents of cherry are surrounded by touches of wood and spice. Dry on the palate with a welcome hint of bitterness, oak, and spice, followed by a long, subtly varnish-y finish. Surprisingly elegant for an overproof rum
